Our Vision For Marlborough
· We envision a Marlborough whose citizens value conservation of our natural and cultural resources. As a community, we strive to preserve natural habitat crucial to the survival of native plants and animals through public education, land conservation and restoration. We desire to create a Greenway of trails and wildlife passages so people may enjoy the outdoors and live in harmony with nature.
· We envision a Marlborough where our historic public buildings, such as the Walker Building, town hall, and library, along with historic houses, monuments, cemeteries, firehouses, churches, storefronts, and documents are maintained so they are in good condition for future generations. We yearn to revitalize an aging city where restoration efforts preserve and rehabilitate historic resources and permanently preserve these resources.
· We desire that our children be able to live in Marlborough and not be forced to locate elsewhere due to the rising cost of homes. We wish to create community housing and rehabilitate existing housing that is consistent with Marlborough’s character and affordable to all.
· We would like to construct new parks, trails, playgrounds, and athletic fields and rebuild existing recreational facilities that have fallen into disrepair.
How CPA Can Help Us
We need a program that will help us preserve our treasures now and bring our community together to create more playing fields, preserve open spaces and restore historic artifacts. Open space reduces the demand for city services and lowers our carbon footprint. Every subdivision or house that is built in Marlborough introduces costs for the school system and town services. Meanwhile fees, which local residents pay to the Registry of Deeds, go to subsidize CPA projects in other communities such as Northborough, Southborough, Sudbury, Ashland and Maynard who have CPA. CPA would enable Marlborough to participate in matching grant programs run by the MA Historical Commission and the Department of Conservation as well as qualify for other state, federal and private grant funding.
